The UK’s lorry drivers are set to benefit from an upgrade in roadside facilities thanks to a combined 43 million GBP investment from the Department for Transport (DfT) and industry partners.

The planned improvements include additional parking spaces, enhanced security, and upgraded amenities at truckstops across the country.

On 7 November, Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood visited the ADS Truckstop in Stoke, where improvements funded by the DfT will provide new parking bays, a café, security fencing, and modernised showers and toilets.

This work aims to enhance working conditions for drivers in order to support industry growth and address lorry driver welfare needs.

Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood said:

Lorry drivers keep our economy moving. It is only right they enjoy safe rest areas, easily available parking, and modern facilities as we showcase their importance during National Lorry Week.

Our joint funding with industry will ensure that lorry parking facilities like ADS Truckstop can make the improvements that lorry drivers deserve, and we will continue working closely with the sector to improve working conditions, support jobs, and get us back to growth.
